A new bill being proposed on Capital Hill could help Missouri and Lake Area seniors eat more fresh produce. According to reports, Democrat State Representative Kim Gardner has recently filed legislation to give seniors vouchers to Missouri’s local farmer’s markets. The measure states that low income seniors would receive the vouchers to use at local or roadside stands in their county for fruit and vegetables. The bill would be for seniors age 60 or older and would increase demand for Missouri grown produce. The bill will require the state to apply for a federal grant to fund the program.
