A Lake Area Representative’s bill regarding child abuse and neglect reports is working its way through the House. Representative Diane Franklin is proposing a bill that would allow the Children’s Division of the Department of Social Services to retain reports and all identifying information in instances where there is sufficient evidence of abuse, but a perpetrator is not identified. They would retain the information for subsequent investigations of the same child or the child’s family. The bill was voted Do Pass by committee last Thursday. As of right now, it does not appear on the House calendar for further consideration.
