A state rep from Excelsior Springs is behind the pen of a house bill seeking to ensure that parents have a voice in their children’s education.

Representative Doug Richey pre-filed the bill on Thursday wanting to make it illegal for school districts,  any governmental entities or public institutions to infringe upon the rights of parents or guardians when it comes to their children’s upbringing, education, health care, or mental health.

The bill also establishes a series of checks and balances and what types of information can be released by school districts as part of the engagement process.

The pre-filing period began earlier this month with the General Assembly set to begin on Wednesday, January 5th.
