A Missouri lawmaker wants to hike the interstate speed limit to 75 miles per hour. That’s five above the current 70 mile per hour limit. If passed, house bill 1215 would put Missouri on par with Kansas, Oklahoma and about a dozen other states that have also increased their speed limit. Supporters acknowledge some opponents may worry about a potential rise in traffic crashes but say a recent study in Texas found no correlation between higher speeds and wrecks. The bill would apply only to speed limits on rural interstates and freeways.
