Religious freedom is the focus of a bill that has passed the house and had its first reading in the Missouri Senate.
Representative Mike McGhee of Odessa sponsored House Joint Resolution 2 which would guarantee religious freedom and the right of Missourians to express religious beliefs in public places. The bill would amend the Missouri Constitution to also say that elected public officials have the right to pray on public grounds and have clergy attend public meetings.
McGhee says the legislation began after school children were targeted for their religious beliefs.
