A new notification system is now in effect to help capture suspects involved in crimes against police officers. The state has implemented the Blue Alert system, which will function similarly to Amber Alerts. The system will be activated when a law enforcement officer is killed or seriously wounded, missing in connection with official duties, or is under an imminent and credible threat. Captain John Hotz with the highway patrol said it’s not only important to get the information out to protect the public, but also to enlist their help.
The Blue Alert system will involve a partnership between law enforcement, radio and television, MoDot, the Emergency Management Agency, and the Department of Public Safety.
