Both of Missouri’s U.S. Senators hope that the Army Corps of Engineers will use this year’s flooding of the Missouri River to plan for next years flooding operations. In a letter to the midwestern leaders of the corps, Senators Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill ask what new authority the corps may need to make changes to the operating plan. The senators also ask about improvements in communication with communities when talking flood risk and how the corps will use future National Weather Service data to determine potential for floods. The senators have also asked for a timeline and plan for federal assistance investments to repair this year’s damaged levees.
