Blunt-Sponsored Bill Requires Insurance to Cover Diagnostic Tests for Breast Cancer

A bill sponsored in part by Missouri Senator Roy Blunt is designed to make breast cancer diagnostic tests more accessible and affordable. The Breast Cancer Diagnosis Act is co-sponsored by Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire. Under current law, insurance companies are require to provide no-cost coverage for breast cancer screenings, but not diagnostic testing. It’s estimated that 10% of screenings require additional follow-up diagnostics. This bill would require that insurance plans also cover those diagnostic tests.
