Broadcasting music incorporated has filed a lawsuit against a local establishment. BMI is suing Jolly Rogers grub n’ grog in Rocky Mount for allegedly infringing on copyright laws, claiming they performed songs licensed to the company without authorization. BMI, which owns the rights to over 8.5 million copyrighted musical compositions, is asking for an injunction to stop Jolly Rogers from using their music and for the judge to assess damage fees. Jolly Rogers claims the songs performed were used in fair use, independently created, authorized or were in the public domain.
