We’re on pace right now to surpass the number of drowning and boating-related deaths from a year ago in Missouri. As of Wednesday, the Highway Patrol reports 13 boating fatalities statewide. That’s the same total we were at during the same time period in 2018, and just three below the total for the entire year. Drowning incidents are outpacing last year’s total, currently standing at 28, four higher than at this time last year. The 2018 total for drowning deaths was 38. The most recent drowning took place Tuesday on the Current River in Shannon County.
