Local fire protection districts have recently spoken out on what they feel has been a more dangerous year on the water so far. The most recent numbers from the Highway and Water Patrol justify those concerns. Those statistics show that, statewide, there has already been more than double the number of boating-related fatalities over the same time period from a year ago. At this point in 2017, five people had died in boating accidents. Already in 2018, 11 have been killed. That’s more in the first six months of the year than occurred in all of 2017, when a total of 10 people died.
