The first positive case of COVID-19 has now been confirmed in the lake area.
Camden County Health Department Administrator Bee Dampier says her department was notified by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services about the Camden County resident who tested positive at Lake Regional Hospital.
Few other details are being released at this time other than the case is not considered to be travel-related and the investigation is underway.
Officials continue to urge lake area residents to stay in accordance with “social distancing” mandates, to isolate yourself and monitor your symptoms if you are feeling ill, and to continue properly washing hands and other good hygiene until the crisis passes.
Over the weekend the number of cases statewide shot up to 128, including members of the military at Whiteman and Fort Leonard Wood, as well as 5 cases at a pre-school in St. Louis. Officials there are fearing the worst as evidence of “community spread” is appearing, which is where it becomes unclear how an infect person contracted the virus and its origins cannot be traced.
