An antique bridge that connected the small town of Westphalia and Osage County road 611 north of Freeburg has collapsed, after a semi-truck attempted to cross it.
According to the Sheriff, the bridge had a 5-ton weight limit but the semi attempted to cross it anyway.
The one lane bridge that crosses the Maries River on the rural rock road, had been in place since 1893.
The Sheriff’s office says they are investigating and are unsure how or why the truck ended up on the small dirt road.
The driver was not hurt in the crash.
