The Buddy Pack Program is a program that many children rely on during the school year put together by the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri. With the budget imploding this program seems to need more and more cuts and is asking for your help. The Food Bank is no longer able to continue this program at all unless local communities help with some of the supplies and materials needed.
During the past year some of the contributing factors that have put this popular program at risk include fuel costs and peanut prices. For example in our area alone the Versailles school district had 200 participants, Stover had another 38, and Hurricane Deck 43 students each Friday. The ramifications of this suffering program will be felt immediately when the New Year starts. Currently only 35% of students in need will receive food from the buddy pack program. To contrast Versailles may need to cut back from 200 to 70 students, Stover 38 to 13, and Hurricane Deck from 43 to15. The cost to fill a bag for a whole year is 180 dollars.
