Osage Beach board president Steve Kahrs addressed the issue at last Thursday’s Osage Beach board meeting.
“You know the Osage Beach Parkway sounds great but I think we really need to get it back to business 54,” Kahrs said, “Or at least let our visitors and our transient traffic know that it is a business corridor where they can get a sandwich, they can stay at a hotel maybe if they want to get some gas because I think we’re really missing out on some transient business that is very important to our business this time of year.”
Kahrs said the business community has asked for a business designation like the one given to Bagnell Dam Boulevard.
City Engineer Nick Edelman said large blue logo signs that have yet to be added will help in the transition.
“The signs that as you are driving down the interstate or major highways that you see, even in Camdenton on Highway 5, food next exit, lodging next exit, gas next exit, attractions next exit,” Edelman said. “Those types of signs are coming up and I think that they will really help.”
The city will make the parkway name permanent with official address changes on January 1st of 2011.
