A national organization dedicated to helping families of fallen law enforcement officers has played a large role in memorializing a Miller County Deputy killed in the line of duty. Sarah Slone of Concerns of Police Survivors – or COPS – says there’s a sad irony in the organization helping the family of Casey Shoemate.
COPS helped organize the services and arrangements. Law enforcement from several agencies has helped provide coverage so that local officers could attend the services. Slone says COPS has been focusing on all the details, allowing the family a chance to mourn properly.
Casey Shoemate was killed in a head-on collision while responding to an emergency call. He was 26 years old.
