Camden County’s thinking about changes to the Unified Land Use Code, including removal or correction of dangerous buildings and tougher overall code enforcement. Planning and Zoning Administrator Don Hathaway says they want to modernize and improve the code. Currently, the county has no power to condemn structures as derelict or dangerous. Area fire departments can condemn dangerous structures through building codes. Hathaway says he’d like to see fire departments and the county work together on a system that does more to keep the public safe.
