K-R-M-S (93-Five Rocks) has logged several calls today (Friday 15) about an apparent scam going on. Persons are receiving phone calls from Washington D.C. based numbers, claiming to be the Internal Revenue Service. The con artists are using fake names and bogus I-R-S identification badge numbers, trying to force the caller to pay the I-R-S via a credit or debit card. Camden County Sheriff’s Department Corporal Scott Hines says to ignore these callers, since the I-R-S would never call but instead send a letter through the postal service notifying the tax payer directly.
