The future of the Camdenton Memorial Airport is still up in the area following a heated board of alderman meeting this week. Over a month ago, city officials taking advice from the airport advisory board elected to change the name of the airport allowing for more tourists to locate the lake area with a stronger name that could show up in airport books, whereas no lake area airport does now. The information was submitted to call it Camdenton Lake of the Ozarks Regional Airport instead of the current name. After hearing this, local veterans where outraged. The airport board came back with the idea of naming the field “Veterans Memorial Field” and actually erecting a monument to the veterans who have passed in previous wars. However, that seemed not good enough for some residents. Finally board members decided to once again send it back to the airport board to make sure “Memorial” comes back into the name. One board of Alderman member told KRMS News that the name change is part of the growth taking place at the airport attempting to attract people to the lake area and was never meant to be against veterans.
