Camdenton is once again hoping to eliminate some blighted properties around the community by participating in a voluntary grant program to fund demolition projects. At Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting, the board will vote on whether to apply for block grant funding from the Department of Economic Development. The funds can only be used for residential structures that are considered abandoned, dangerous, and blighted. The homes must have been vacant for at least a year and property owners have to be willing to pay a minimum of $500 toward the demolition cost. Under that plan, the property owners will retain ownership of the land once the demolition is complete. The city will apply for $124,000 in grants and will provide nearly $24,000 in matching funds.
