The census numbers recently released have some up and down sides. Roger Corbin, who headed up the Camden County Complete Count Committee, says on a positive note that Camdenton saw a significant change.
“The city of Camdenton gained 26%,” Corbin said. “They went from 2,779 to 3,718 which is really equivalent to taking the present city of Laurie and putting it inside of the city of Camdenton city limits.
Corbin says there was a bad statistic regarding occupancy.
“I guess the only real bad news is, and I don’t know if it is really significantly bad news, is we had the highest vacancy rate of housing in the state of Missouri at 54%.”
“Now a lot of that was absentees. People that were here when the census went through but they were picked up on census forms, so it’s not necessarily a valid number. Of course we do have a lot of vacant condos.”
Camden County was the only county that was counted by hand for the 2010 census.
