Under a city ordinance in Camdenton, businesses must designate smoking and no smoking areas, except for bars with a seating capacity of lower than 50 people. Police Chief Laura Wright conducted a survey to learn what businesses were in compliance with the statute. Of the 22 businesses she went to, only four of them allowed smoking. Three of the four do not have a designated smoking area. The ordinance also requires businesses to post no smoking signs as a way to regulate it. Six of the 22 businesses did not have any signs posted to let customers know they were a no smoking establishment. One of the businesses that allows smoking also has a capacity over 50 people, making it non-compliant with the statute. Mayor McNabb had questioned the compliance statistics after Leah Martin approached the Board of Aldermen on July 19th about the smoke-free lake initiative.
