No traffic accidents reported by the highway patrol in the Lake Area over the holiday weekend, officially, beginning at 6-PM last Friday night. However, there were at least three incidents on the water cutting the holiday fun short for a few people. The first happened late Saturday afternoon near the 1.3 mile marker of the Gravois Arm when a Cigarette boat was, reportedly, being operated too fast for conditions causing it to capsize. Two occupants of the boat suffered moderate injuries and were treated at Lake Regional. A second incident happened when a boat sank near the 16 mile marker of the main channel. Each of the occupants escaped injury thanks to nearby boaters who jumped into action helping them to safety. And a third incident happened early Sunday afternoon at the 58.1 mile mark, Ivy Bend Resort, when a PWC exploded while the 21-year-old operator from Olathe, Kansas, was trying to start it. Two nearby conservation agents assisted at the scene. The operator of the PWC escaped with minor injuries and was treated at University Hospital.
