When it comes to using an online app to find a charter for pay on the water, it’s a case of let the buyer beware. That’s according to Captain Bob Zales, president of the National Association of Charter Boat Operators. Zales has operated a charter service for over 50 years and says the growing trend is clearly illegal and becoming a widespread problem across the country.
Charter boat services fall under the authority of the coast guard which imposes several regulations on the industry. Among them include having a license to operate the service, drug testing, maintaining a certain level of insurance and having the vessel adequately equipped with safety devices.
