There is mounting pressure to keep wireless companies from haphazardly placing cell phone towers in surrounding lake area communities. The Osage Beach board of alderman continues to focus on legislation that would give wireless companies free reign in locating wireless towers in Missouri communities. The city thought legislation proposed last year by representative rocky miller would solve the problem, however, the bill eventually approved by the state legislature and signed by Governor Nixon was very different from what miller proposed. Only a legal challenge to the bill’s title kept the legislation from becoming law. The cause to prevent a similar bill from reaching the governor’s desk has been taken up by several lake area communities including Lake Ozark, Laurie and Sunrise Beach. And the Lake of the Ozarks council of local governments is also weighing in on the issue.
