A recent event to make sure people had working smoke detectors resulted in hundreds of the devices being distributed to lake area residents. Sponsored by the Community Foundation of the Lake and held in conjunction with several local fire protection districts, the smoke detector giveaway was held in mid-July in Osage Beach. The CFL says they gave away 392 detectors, bringing their total to nearly 2000 distributed over the last three years. Farmers Insurance provided a $10,000 grant for the event for the third year in a row. If you missed out, you can still get the detectors you need. You can contact your local fire district for help with detectors and event organizers say they’ll likely hold another similar event this fall in Camdenton.
