A number of lake area boat owners are not exactly full of holiday cheer when it comes to news recently released by the U.S. Coast Guard. A new $26 dollar fee is being charged every year for boat owners to have their USCG documents renewed. This used to be free, but not any longer. However the documentation is not required for everyone. It’s optional for recreational boats but required for all commercial vessels weighing five tons or more. According to reports there are currently around 265,000 vessels nationwide that are documented by the Coast Guard.
