53-year-old David Wynton Smith appeared in the Camden County Courtroom with his attorney before entering guilty pleas to negotiated charges of Voluntary Manslaughter, a Class-B felony, and a Class-D felony charge of abandonment of a corpse. The charges come from a 10 year old case. Smith had, originally, been charged with First-Degree Murder in the case dating back to April 1, 2016, in which he and Shawn Spencer were in a dispute ending with Smith shooting Spencer and then trying to dispose of the body. No weapon or body was ever, reportedly, discovered in the case with two individuals contacting law enforcement years after the fact with alleged details of the incident. As part of the deal, Smith was sentenced to up to 15 years on the Voluntary Manslaughter charge and up to another four years on the Abandoning of a Corpse charge with both to run consecutively. As part of the deal, the State agreed to not pursue any Child Pornography charges, apparently, not associated with the manslaughter charge against Smith.
