A Mexico, Missouri man accused of causing the death of a State Highway Patrol trooper following a high speed motorcycle chase in August of 2015 has pled not guilty to the charges against him. A second arraignment was held on Friday (22) for 20 year old Serghei Comerzan who is facing several charges including second degree murder in the death of Trooper James Bava who was pursuing a motorcycle in Audrain County allegedly driven by Comerzan. Prosecutors say Comerzan fled, traveling at over 100 mph and passing other vehicles. Trooper Bava’s patrol car then crashed during the pursuit and caught fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Trooper Bava had been assigned to the Patrol’s Troop “F” which serves several mid Missouri counties including the Tri-County Area. Comerzan’s next court appearance is scheduled for February 19th.
