A bi-partisan group of state representatives will be investigating the Highway Patrol’s Water Division. Though not specifically mentioned in a press release, the move comes after an Iowa man, 20 year old Brandon Ellingson drowned while in custody back in may. The legislators say the primary focus of the group will be to review the way the division is managed, the training received by Troopers and the overall cost benefit the State has realized from the merger of the Water Patrol with the State Highway Patrol. The committee was formed at the request of Representatives Diane Franklin, Rocky Miller and David Wood. Franklin will chair the committee.
