A local community is standing behind a family after a series of situations leaves them with no home and the death of their son. According to reports, firefighters were called out to the home of Shirley and Robert Gilpin on Route V. The house suffered serious smoke and heat damage and was a total loss. Meanwhile Gilpin’s son Anthony was racing to the house after hearing about the fire. Police say he lost control of his vehicle when he attempted to pass another vehicle and ended up flipping multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene while his passenger, Fredrick Cundiff, was flown to University Hospital in critical condition. Members of the Red Cross are providing food and shelter and the community has agreed to pay for the son’s funeral.
