It’s being called an unfortunate growing need for a service available from an organization with its national headquarters right here in the Lake Area. Concerns of Police Survivors, or COPS, has been considerably busier than years past helping survivors cope with the aftermath of losing a loved one. Sara Slone, PR Director for COPS, says the biggest challenge is helping to prepare law enforcement for a line-of-duty death.
Since the inception of COPS, more than 37-thousand survivors of law enforcement cut down in the line of duty have been served. Several activities throughout the year, locally and nationwide, help to provide funding for the organization including a golf tournament this weekend at Old Kinderhook and a 5K event on the 20th at the Linn Creek Park.
