Two Waynesville residents admit that they were stealing items from a Lake Area business to sell to come up with “dope money.” Probable cause statements filed in the Miller County Courthouse allege 29-year-old Kyle Jones and 31-year-old Shannon Vanderhoof had loaded a shopping cart full of items from Menards into a vehicle before driving off and nearly striking an employee who attempted to stop them. While taking a report, Lake Ozark officers were then called to a report of suspicious activity where Jones and Vanderhoof were attempting to enter another business on Bagnell Dam Boulevard. Initially, when confronted, they gave officers false information about their identities and why they were trying to enter the business claiming they needed to use a bathroom. Eventually, they did allegedly admit to stealing the nearly $1800.00 worth of items from Menards to come up with money for “dope.” Jones and Vanderhoof, both charged with felony stealing and attempted burglary, were taken into custody before being booked into the Miller County Jail. Bond, for both, was set at $25,000.
