A Camden County court appears to have answered lingering questions of the validity of area business districts several years ago. Amid recent renewed criticism of the boards and their relationship with Tri-County Lodging, the Camden County Commission said they would seek an outside opinion for clarification. Presiding Commissioner Greg Hasty has provided a court judgment issued in 2012 that says the district is a “properly created and established political subdivision” in compliance with Missouri Statutes. It also verifies the validity of the established property tax and the ability to contract with TCLA to administer it. That strikes down criticisms from opponents of a proposed lodging tax increase to fund a soccer complex after they had claimed the body wasn’t valid and had no authority to collect or spend public funds.
