We’re getting a clearer picture of the COVID 19 impact on the Nation’s meat processing industry
At least 44 meat packing workers in the US have died from coronavirus and another 3-thousand have tested positive.
That’s according to the largest union representing meat processing workers.
The United Food and Commercial Workers union says 30-meatpacking plants have closed at some point since March.
There’s been an estimated 40-percent drop in pork production and a 25-percent reduction in beef processing.
Two of those facilities are located in the show me state, nearby Burgers Smokehouse and a Pork Plant in St. Joseph.
The Tyson plant in Springfield remains open and without any coronavirus cases.
