COVID 19 Scam Asks Residents To Pay $50 For Tests

A number of county officials in the Lake Area are warning residents about a COVID-19 Phone scam.

According to a report out of Maries county, someone is calling residents to inform them that they have been in direct contact with someone who tested positive.

The caller then states they will send an emergency test kit for a one-time fee of $50.

They claim you will be fined by the state if you do not get tested.

Officials say the county health department will contact you, requesting you self-isolate and get tested free of charge and they would never require you to pay over the phone for any reason.
