A three year veteran of the Camden County Sheriff’s Department is the Missouri Deputy Sheriff of the Year. Corporal Jason Higgins was given the honor at the Missouri Deputy Sheriff’s Association banquet at the Resort at Port Arrowhead.
Corporal Higgins was recognized for his efforts in arresting a dangerous “walk away” from a local care center back on May 14th. Higgins and Sgt. Charles Manes were able to locate the man on State Route D. The suspect pointed a .22 caliber handgun at Higgins when the suspect opened the door of the residence. Corporal Higgins grabbed the gun and tackled the suspect and the weapon discharged into the kitchen floor. Sgt. Manes assisted Higgins in the arrest.
Camden County Sheriff Dwight Franklin says the corporal’s actions exemplify the high level of dedication, commitment, and service the community has come to expect from his deputies.
