Teams and home inspectors from FEMA will soon be in several Missouri counties to assess damage from storms and flooding that hit the state in late December and early January. Residents in 33 counties including Camden, Morgan and Laclede that have been affected by the recent flooding may soon see crews assessing the damage following President Obama’s recent action granting Governor Nixon’s request for a major disaster declaration. Unemployment benefits for up to 26 weeks may also be available for residents in those 33 counties whose employment was lost or interrupted due to the flooding. The Missouri Department of Labor’s Division of Employment Security will be accepting applications for Disaster Unemployment Assistance until February 22nd. Additional information on this can be found at labor.mo.gov. Victims of the recent storms and flooding may also qualify for tax relief from the IRS such as a postponement of certain deadlines. Those who have a business or reside in a disaster area can go to IRS.gov for more information.
