A criminal charge filed against a member of the Osage Beach Board of Aldermen has been changed. Jeff Bethurem was originally charged with an unclassified felony for an election offense. The Camden County Prosecuting Attorney’s office has now amended that charge to a class D felony for perjury. It’s alleged that Bethurem knowingly testified falsely to a material fact by signing an affidavit of candidacy which stated he had never been convicted of a misdemeanor. The prosecution says Bethurem did so with the intent to deceive, knowing that he had in fact been convicted of at least two previous misdemeanors. Bethurem waived his initial arraignment on the amended charge. The judge has heard arguments on a motion to dismiss the case but did not rule on it. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for March 8th.
