A Missouri death row inmate who held a 19 year old woman hostage at a Camdenton motel before killing her in July of 2001 is asking to be spared from execution. David Zink has appeals pending before the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. A clemency request has also been submitted to Governor Jay Nixon. Zink was convicted of abducting, raping and strangling to death 19 year old Amanda Morton of Strafford. Zink abducted her from alongside I-44 after rear ending her car. He then took the young woman to a motel near Camdenton. The motel owner later recognized Morton’s picture following a news broadcast and called authorities. Zink is scheduled to be executed between 6pm today (14) and 5:59 pm Wednesday (15).
