Deer harvest numbers are in for the 2013 hunting season. According to the Missouri department of conservation, numbers are down for the second consecutive year. The overall yearly state harvest was 250,787. Archery season, which just closed out last week, saw archers check just over 50,500 deer. Officials with the MDC say the deer population has been declining since it went thru a growth spurt about a decade ago. In the last couple years hemorrhagic disease has been a big factor for the decrease. The Missouri department of conservation is expected to take a long hard look at deer numbers and possibly make some amendments to regulations for the 2014 deer season.
