In the Lake Area alone last year, hunters killed almost 9,000 deer. So, it’s no secret that the population is fairly heavy in the area. It has also become apparent that the deer are becoming more active and sightings along the road are becoming more common this time of year. Jim Braithwait, with the Missouri Department of Conservation, says that’s not usual.
Braithwait says, with breeding season coming in Mid-November, the sightings will increase until that point and then peak.
