A group of former firefighters is questioning the leadership of the Northwest Fire Protection District. Ten to 20 emergency responders quit the Climax Springs area in early September — and the list is growing. They say they won’t work for Chief Red Addair. The district, which includes Camden, Hickory and Benton counties, is working without some of its formerly highest ranking staff. Among the complaints: Addair’s spending money on things the department doesn’t need. And they say leaders are ignoring some essential equipment like face masks and gloves. Addair says the group quit because they didn’t want to follow safety rules.
