Public safety agencies within the Western District of Missouri are in line for more than $3.2 million in Department of Justice grants to aid in the response to challenges posed by the outbreak of COVID-19. The Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program, authorized by the recent stimulus legislation, allows for eligible state and local governments to apply immediately for a total of $850-million nationwide…more than $5.5 million of that available for agencies in Missouri. Funding from the DOJ grants can be used to hire personnel, pay overtime, cover protective equipment and supplies, address needs within local correctional facilities and other related expenses to the COVID crisis. The grant funds can be applied for retroactively to January 20th.
