The Missouri State Highway Patrol is reminding residents to stay off the roads if possible. Captain Commanding Officer of Troop F, Gregory Kindle says driving conditions will remain hazardous for next couple days. The extremely low temperatures and snow may cause problems on major and secondary roads. Because of these conditions, the patrol encourages all motorists to avoid travel unless for emergency purposes. The highway patrol is also issuing the following safety tips for motorists:
1) Maintain at least a half tank of fuel in your vehicle
2) Wind chill temperatures can cause frostbite in minutes: if stranded, stay with your vehicle and call for assistance as soon as possible.
3) Do not walk on or stand near dangerously slick roadways.
The public can also check road conditions by calling the Missouri road condition report line at 1-888-275-6636 or by checking mo-dot’s road condition map. A road condition update is also available on the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s website.
