The Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the death of a man arrested by Troopers. Sergeant Scott White with Troop F tells KRMS News, 21-year-old William Westfall of Eugene died at University Hospital in Columbia Thursday just after 9:00 p.m. The patrol was notified Friday of his death. According to the patrol, Westfall and three others were stopped by troopers from the Rural Crime Investigation Unit and Troop F on Missouri Route BB near Eugene. Troopers stopped the vehicle after observing Westfall, a known fugitive, in it. During that stop, Westfall and three others in the vehicle were found to be possessing meth. All four were taken into custody without incident. While in transport, officers noticed Westfall might have been experiencing physical and mental distress. He was taken directly to Capital Regional Medical Center for treatment. A preliminary investigation by the patrol indicated Westfall had possibly ingested an unknown amount of meth prior to being arrested by Troopers.
