The state Attorney General is calling on residents to come forward who may have been scammed by an Eldon man.

Eric Schmitt says that William Smith of RestoMod Garage, a car modification shop in Eldon, has been officially charged with consumer fraud and stealing.

The charges in Miller County allege that Smith took money from customers for car modifications, but never provided the services.

He’s also facing charges for failing to properly care for those cars, often leaving them outside causing them to deteriorate.

In some cases the cars were returned, but with missing parts.

Schmidt says overall they know of 11 customers who were scammed, including three elderly victims and six veterans.

If you were scammed by this or any other shop, you’re asked to contact the consumer protection hotline or submit a complaint on the AG’s website.
