EPA/Environmental Watchdogs Clash Over Ameren Power Plant

A number of environmental watchdogs are taking aim at a proposal that would declare an Ameren Coal Power Plant safe.

The proposal by the federal EPA would label the Labadie Coal Plant as “Not emitting enough sulfur dioxide” to require Ameren to install millions of dollars’ worth of pollution controls.

The watchdogs say Ameren has no air monitoring equipment in a large area southwest of the plant, where the winds usually push emissions.

Ameren claims they have a “robust” monitor system that looks at all areas around the plant.
