Last weekend’s fatal boat explosion was the second such mishap in less than a month. While it’s not known yet exactly what caused the fire that claimed one life, the accident has focused attention on the need to follow all safety standards when refueling your vessel. Captain Dave Anderson with Towboat U.S. was on The Ozarks Today to offer some safety tips. He said sometimes it’s easy to get careless about things like running your blower after filling the tanks.
Anderson says there’s also debate in the industry over running the blower WHILE refueling as opposed to just afterward.
The boat involved in Sunday’s fatal accident had just finished refueling when the fire began. One person was killed and another seriously burned.
