Thousands of people in the lake area are eligible for improved access to high-speed internet, but it may not happen anytime soon. The FCC has identified thousands of homes and businesses that would qualify and they’re making money available to providers to offset the costs of offering the service. There’s a catch, though. The money is available through a reverse-auction under a program called the Connect America Fund. Up to $2 billion will be available, but companies across the country will be competing for it, and it will spread over a ten-year period. According to the data released by the FCC, there are 10,560 eligible homes or businesses in Camden, Miller, and Morgan counties combined.
